Special OPs Firearm Instruction Mission Statement:

D. Lewie Drake RN, CEN, CFRN, NREMT-P founder of Special OP’s Firearm Instruction has extensive knowledge and experience with firearms and working in the emergency medical field as both a paramedic and registered nurse.
In 1984, Lewie Drake started out as a Special Operations medic in the 1/75th Ranger BN. After years of schooling and training in several of the Infantry and special operations training courses, Sergeant Drake was chosen to attend Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA.
After completing OCS, he became a commissioned Infantry Officer and was selected as a Special Forces Officer in the United States Army. Lewie Drake reached the rank of Captain and was highly decorated for valor in combat twice during his military career.

High quality equipment is a hallmark of Special Op’s Firearm instruction.
When you train with us, you may use your own equipment, or ours, consisting of:
- Glock 44 (.22 Cal)
- quality ammunition
- Blade-Tech holsters
- magazine holsters
- cleaning kits with mats, and
- SIRT laser training pistols and rifles.
For the medical side, we utilize:
- New Preston CPR mannequins in both adult and infant sizes
- New Preston AED trainers
- the latest soft supplies such as- quick clot US Army dressing and seals, and
- CPR masks with one way valves.

Our unique teaching methodology takes the "fear" out of firearms training; enhancing the learning experience so that students get more out of their education.

The NRA Basics of Pistol Course is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation and is available for delivery in two ways.
- The traditional, instructor-led course.
- The other option has two components: 1) a self-study or “eLearning module” and 2) a hands-on practical portion conducted in a classroom and shooting range with an Instructor.

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and provides information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.
Prerequisite: This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm).

This course teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home.
Prerequisite: This course is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state or local law and are of good repute and possess defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics Of Personal Protection In The Home Course.

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting Course teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting.
This course is at least eight hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles.
NRA Basic Shotgun is the same format as the NRA Rifle but for Shotgun shooters.
