Instructor's Bio

Dean Lewie Drake, RN CEN CFRN NREMT-P

D. Lewie Drake RN, CEN, CFRN, NREMT-P founder of Special OP’s Firearm Instruction has extensive knowledge and experience with firearms and working in the emergency medical field as both a paramedic and registered nurse.

In 1984, Lewie Drake started out as a Special Operations medic in the 1/75th Ranger BN.  After years of schooling and training in several of the Infantry and special operations training courses, Sergeant Drake was chosen to attend Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, GA.

After completing OCS, he became a commissioned Infantry Officer and was selected as a Special Forces Officer in the United States Army.  Lewie Drake reached the rank of Captain and was highly decorated for valor in combat twice during his military career.

  • Enlisted 1984-1990 E-1 to E-5 and Officer 1990-1999 O-1 to O-3.
  • Basic and AIT with MOS as 91B/11B/18D.
  • Airborne, Ranger, Sniper and Air Assault School
  •  Jungle expert
  • Officer Candidate School, Infantry Officer basic and Advanced course
  • Special Forces training as both a medic and Officer
  • Special Forces HALO and SCUBA school
  • Psychological Special Warfare school
  • Rated as expert in all the small arms and crew served weapon systems in use with the United States Army
  • Served in the U.S. Army:  1/75th Ranger Battalion and 2/14th10th Mountain Division, Special Ops medic and Infantry platoon member.
  • Indiana National Guard 2/293 38th Infantry Brigade. (Infantry Platoon and TOW Platoon Leader),
  • Florida National Guard 3/20th Special Forces Team XO, and 2/124th 53rd Infantry (Infantry and 81mm mortar Platoon leader), 
  • Arkansas National Guard, 1/151 Cav Scout Platoon leader, 2/153 Infantry Brigade XO - HHC and Delta company, S-3 Chemical/Battle Captain
  • Colorado National Guard, 5/19th Special Forces, Team Captain
  • U.S. Army Reserve 324th Psyop detachment, Brigade Detachment Commander


Military Awards:

Combat Infantry Badge, Combat Field Medical Badge, Silver Star, Bronze Star with V device for Valor, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal 5th award, Army Achievement Medal 3rd award, Good Conduct Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and many other awards.


Medical training:

Nationally Registered Paramedic over 30 years, Registered Nurse over 20 years, Board Certified Emergency Nurse, Board Certified Flight Nurse, State of WI Ventilator Nurse. Was a SWAT Medic for Miami Metro Dade Sheriffs Dept. and a Special Operations Medic US Army.
